Italian job

Italian job
George Toothill

At the start of the Italian job we see an establishing shot over the hills of Italy. We start to here a car noise coming from the hills and the camera slowly tilts down revealing spaghetti of roads, and the beauty of the Italian mountain. The camera then cuts and reveals a long shot of a red car going over a large secluded bridge. It cuts again but this time we are in the front of the car and can hear the Lamborghinis v8 purr. After a good 30 seconds a non diegetic soundtrack starts to play. It is one of the most recognisable sound tracks in the world and is called “on days like these.” Over the next 3 minutes the camera changes about 20 different times revealing loads of different camera shots and angles. From following the car from behind to us feeling like we are actually driving the car throughout these 2-3 minutes there are plenty of shots of the red Lamborghini. We then take a seat back with the driver as the titles start flashing across the windscreen. Up to here we feel as this man driving the car is going to be our main character.
The titles then stop as the red car starts to enter a tunnel. As the car speeds past the camera the camera cuts to the other end of the tunnel where a man dressed in black is holding a wraith and is looking towards to tunnel where a JCB digger is at the mouth it then cuts back into the tunnel where it is total darkness the next noise we hear is the noise of the screeching breaks of the car and the impact into the digger. The tunnel then lights up with the explosion from the car. We then sees and hear the JCB reversing back with the wrecked car hold on the front. This time we notice that there are men on top of the bridge holding guns. From this point on we realise that these people are the mafia and this gives us a huge hint at what the narrative is going to be in the film. This tells us the genre of the film too we can see that it is going to be a crime/ gangster film full f guns, fights and money. We then see the wrecked car from a different angle and the camera zooms in on a important looking man standing next to the car from the mise en scene and the way the camera moves into this man i get the impression that this is the mafia boss. The bulldozer then turns around and throws the car down the cliff and into the river below. The mafia boss then picks of the wraith from the man next to him and throws it down after the car as a sign of respect.
